City of Gothenburg
Göteborg is situated on the west coast of Sweden and has a population of 500.000 inhabitants. The city covers an area of 450 square kilometres and is the capital of the county Västra Götaland and the centre of the Göteborg region (13 municipalities / about 850,000 inhabitants).
Göteborg has a long and successful tradition as an industrial and trading city. A significant proportion of all trade with Sweden is conducted at the Port of Göteborg, the largest in Scandinavia. The city also has an important position when it comes to land based infrastructure (major highways, rail network) connecting with the rest of the country as well as Norway and Denmark.
The City of Göteborg has for many years worked proactively to make transport in the city more sustainable. Many of the actions have also been carried out in a European context. The city council has joined several international declarations and is committed to reduce CO2 emissions from the city by 30% before the year 2020.
